Sainsbury's to Sell Argos for £120 Million to Focus on Food Business
The supermarket giant is divesting the home and general merchandise retailer to Swift Partners, a newly formed company led by former Co-operative Group boss Richard Pennycook.

Sainsbury's has agreed to sell the retailer Argos to Swift Partners for £120 million as the company seeks to concentrate on its core food operations. Swift Partners, a newly established entity created specifically for this acquisition, is backed by former Co-operative Group chief executive Richard Pennycook.
Under the terms of the agreement, Argos will continue to be available within Sainsbury's stores. The sale also includes provisions for Argos to sell Habitat products and offer Nectar loyalty points to customers. Sainsbury's has stated that operations will remain as usual for customers, staff, and suppliers following the completion of the deal, which is anticipated in February.
The divestment signals a strategic shift for Sainsbury's, allowing it to streamline its business and prioritize its grocery offerings.
