Ryanair is implementing a new 60-minute rule for its bag drop service, requiring passengers who check luggage to arrive at the airport earlier than before. The change, set to take effect on November 10, means bag drop services will close one hour before the scheduled departure time, a shift from the previous 40-minute deadline.

According to Ryanair's chief marketing officer Dara Brady, this adjustment aims to provide passengers who check bags with more time to navigate airport security and passport control queues, ensuring they reach their departure gate punctually, especially during peak travel times.

Approximately 20 percent of Ryanair passengers check in a bag, while the remaining 80 percent who travel with carry-on only will not be affected by this new rule. These passengers can continue to check in online and proceed directly through security to their gate.

The airline noted that the new policy comes amid a period of travel disruptions at European airports, partly due to the Entry/Exit System (EES) which processes non-EU nationals entering the Schengen Area. Ryanair has previously warned about potential delays caused by the EES and has stated that flights will not be held for passengers delayed by border control queues. The budget carrier has advised all travelers to arrive at the airport well in advance of their flight.
