Rolls-Royce Nears New Jet Engine Deal Amid Rivalry with GE
The British manufacturer aims to regain market share with a potential contract for its Trent 1000 engines after addressing previous operational issues.
Rolls-Royce is reportedly close to securing a new contract to supply an unnamed airline with its Trent 1000 aircraft engines, intensifying its competition with U.S. rival General Electric.
This potential deal marks a significant step in Rolls-Royce's efforts to recover market share following years of challenges with the Trent 1000 engine. The company has been working to rebuild customer confidence after issues such as cracks and erosion affected the engine's performance. Rolls-Royce has been upgrading existing engines for its customers and recently regained LATAM Airlines as a client, with a deal to power three 787 aircraft.
According to Rolls-Royce executive Celine Bouas, the past few months have been highly productive, with one significant deal nearing completion. Bouas indicated that the prospective client has historically purchased engines from competitors like GE and CFM. The company hopes for a swift announcement of this new order.
