Rolls-Royce Nears New Engine Deal Amid Rivalry with GE
The British manufacturer is close to securing a significant contract for its Trent 1000 engine, aiming to regain market share.
Rolls-Royce is nearing the final stages of securing a new contract to supply an unnamed airline with its Trent 1000 aircraft engine, positioning itself against American competitor GE. This potential deal marks a crucial step in the company's effort to recover market share following a period of significant challenges with the engine model.
Under the leadership of CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, Rolls-Royce has been working to restore customer confidence after the Trent 1000 experienced issues such as cracks and erosion. The company is actively upgrading engines for its existing clients and has recently succeeded in winning back LATAM Airlines with an order to power three 787 aircraft.
Rolls executive Celine Bouas indicated on July 2, 2026, that a new agreement is close to being finalized, stating that the past three to four months have been highly productive and that "one very mature deal in the pipeline." Bouas noted that the prospective client has historically purchased engines from competitors, including GE and CFM, and expressed optimism for an imminent announcement.
