Revolut Secures French Banking License, Bolstering European Expansion
The fintech firm gains a crucial license from French regulators and the ECB, enabling broader product offerings in France and signaling continued growth ambitions.
Revolut has obtained a French banking license, a significant step in its ongoing expansion across Europe. The license was granted by the ACPR banking regulator and the European Central Bank (ECB), allowing the fintech company to offer a wider array of financial products, including loans, mortgages, and savings accounts, to its customers in France.
This development comes as Revolut, headquartered in London, also aims to secure a banking license in the United States this year. The company achieved its status as a fully-fledged UK bank in March, following years of regulatory negotiations.
Revolut plans to establish Paris as its Western Europe headquarters, shifting its customer base away from its current Eastern European hub. The firm has encountered scrutiny from European regulators since first acquiring a banking license in Lithuania in 2018. The new French license is expected to facilitate its strategic relocation and enhance its service capabilities within the Western European market.
