Queensland Couple Wins $40 Million Powerball Jackpot
A single ticket holder from Brisbane's western suburbs secured the entire $40 million Powerball prize, with the winner expressing disbelief and plans to pay off their mortgage and support family.
A Powerball ticket sold in Queensland has won the entire $40 million jackpot for draw 1575, which occurred on Thursday night. The sole division one winner, a man from the Brisbane suburb of Kenmore, reacted with shock and expletives upon being informed of the win. "F**k no! What? You're kidding me," he reportedly said.
The couple also secured 19 division two wins using the same numbers, bringing their total winnings to $40,724,820.55. The husband stated that while he had dreamed of winning, he never imagined it would happen to them. He shared plans to pay off their mortgage and provide for their children and family. His wife echoed the sentiment, expressing disbelief and noting that she had been joking about receiving a call from the lottery when it came.
The winning numbers for the draw were 7, 11, 12, 18, 27, 30, and 34, with the Powerball number being 16. The large jackpot accumulated because the top prize had not been claimed for a month prior to this draw.
