Prohibition Brewing Company, a family-owned fixture in Vista, California, will close at the end of the month, marking the end of its 15-year run. The owners announced the decision to sell the business, which has served local patrons in North County San Diego.

The closure follows a recent announcement by Stone Brewing that it would be shuttering its Escondido campus, leading to layoffs. Prohibition Brewing Company's brewpub was established in 2011 by Ron, Kathy, and Kyle Adams. The 6,687-square-foot property, which includes the building and equipment, is listed for sale at $2.75 million.

"After nearly 15 years, we have decided to sell," the company stated in a social media post. "After this weekend we will have blowout sales on all kegs and cans."

Owner Kyle Adams indicated that his parents are ready to retire and he is seeking a change. He also acknowledged that inflation and increasingly cautious consumer spending have contributed to the difficulties in maintaining the business. The property is being marketed as a turnkey operation, equipped for restaurant, taproom, and commercial brewing activities.

Prohibition's impending closure is part of a broader trend affecting San Diego County's beer industry, with more than 20 breweries reportedly ceasing operations in recent years. Recent observations from locals suggested a decline in patronage, with one customer noting only one employee working during a recent visit, even on a weekend.

"Breweries ran their course," one local commented, reflecting a sentiment that dining out has become a luxury for many. "Going out is a luxury for many now."

Adams mentioned that the brewery has stopped brewing new batches and will cease ordering food. As products deplete and staff members find new employment, operations may be further reduced. The high-visibility location near Highway 76 and Highway 78 is also noted for its potential for redevelopment or retail use.
