Pink Floyd Guitarist Slashes Price of Sussex Home Amid Buyer Scarcity

Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour has significantly reduced the asking price for his renovated seafront home in Hove, Sussex, listing it at £8.25 million. This marks a near 50% decrease from its initial £15 million asking price when it first went on the market in 2022.

Property History and Campaign Opposition

The property, a six-bedroom townhouse built on the site of a former Victorian bathhouse, has been on the market for four years. Gilmour and his wife, author Polly Samson, purchased the Grade II-listed property in 2015. They received planning permission in 2017 to demolish the dilapidated 1894 bathhouse and construct a modern home designed as an "echo" of the original structure.

Their renovation plans faced opposition from a local campaign group, 'Save Hove from Property Tycoons,' who protested the demolition of the historic building. The group even posted a note on the property wall mimicking Pink Floyd's song "Another Brick in the Wall" with lyrics critical of the development. The original bathhouse, built in 1894, had a varied history, serving as a women's Turkish bath, a makeshift hospital during World War II, a diamond cutting business, and later a squat occupied by an art group before lying empty for years. The site had seen approximately 20 unsuccessful planning applications from a previous owner before Gilmour acquired it.

Price Adjustments and Market Struggles

Following the demolition and construction, the property was first listed for £15 million in 2022. In September 2023, the price was lowered to £10 million due to falling house prices. It was subsequently taken off the market in 2024 and 2025 after failing to attract a buyer at £8.95 million. The current listing at £8.25 million represents a substantial reduction.

The 15-room home features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a music room, gym, sauna, wine store, and a walled garden courtyard. It also offers views of the English Channel. Despite these amenities, the property has struggled to find a buyer over the past four years.
