Persimmon Predicts Strong Year Despite Market Pressures
The UK housebuilder anticipates reaching the upper end of its annual targets, buoyed by a 15% rise in first-half profits.
Persimmon has expressed optimism for the current year, predicting it will achieve the upper end of its financial targets despite prevailing economic headwinds. The UK housebuilder reported a 15% increase in profits to £168 million and a 15% rise in revenues to £1.7 billion for the first half of the year.
During the initial six months, Persimmon completed 5,189 homes, marking a 13% year-on-year increase. The company's boss, Dean Finch, stated that profits remain on track with guidance, and the firm expects to deliver 12,500 homes in 2026. "We defied gloom in the sector," Finch noted.
While private sales saw a 6% uplift in the five weeks leading up to the end of June, Persimmon cautioned that open market sales have experienced a slight softening since. This moderation is attributed to a challenging market environment, influenced by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has led to increased mortgage rates and diminished consumer confidence.
