Penthouse Overlooking Lord's Cricket Ground Lists for Over £10 Million
A unique penthouse apartment with a 100-foot terrace offering views of Lord's Cricket Ground is on the market with bids starting at £10 million, with proceeds designated for charity.
A penthouse apartment at Lord's View Two, featuring a 100-foot terrace with direct views of the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, has been listed for sale with initial bids exceeding £10 million. The property, designed by architect Max Clendinning, was commissioned in the 1990s by Laurence Silman, a lifelong member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
The apartment boasts floor-to-ceiling windows on the side overlooking the cricket ground, and on the opposite side, panoramic views of the London skyline, including landmarks such as the London Eye, BT Tower, and The Shard. The property includes a smaller one-bedroom flat on the 10th floor and is being sold via a sealed bid auction. It is accessible directly opposite the Heyhoe Flint Gate, formerly the East Gate, of Lord's.
Laurence Silman, who passed away in 2023, envisioned the penthouse as a premier venue for entertaining guests during cricket matches. His brother, Robert Silman, hopes the property will attract a buyer who shares a similar passion for cricket and will continue to use the space for entertaining. "Laurence saw something in that unfinished rooftop that nobody else did: a place to bring together the people he loved, around the game he loved," Robert Silman stated. "The terrace became the backdrop to decades of summers measured out in Test matches and ODIs; releasing it now feels like the right moment."
In accordance with Laurence Silman's will, the proceeds from the sale are to be donated to the Launan Charitable Trust. This trust supports a charitable publisher and a theater company focused on the works of playwright August Wilson. A portion of the proceeds over £10 million will also benefit the MCC Foundation, which supports grassroots cricket, and a charity chosen by the buyer.
The Launan Charitable Trust commented on the sale's charitable aspect, stating, "The decision to link this sale to funding for amateur cricket sends a powerful signal. The idea that a private terrace over Lord's can help sustain nets, pitches and coaching sessions across the country speaks to cricket's capacity to connect very different worlds."
The auction coincides with a busy summer schedule at Lord's, featuring international men's matches and major women's global tournaments. The summer's international cricket was set to commence with a Test match between England and New Zealand, weather permitting.
