NYC Gyms Elevate Workouts with High-End Recovery Services

Gyms in New York City are expanding beyond traditional workouts to offer a wide array of recovery services, positioning themselves as holistic wellness destinations. This evolution reflects a growing demand from members who seek not just exercise, but also advanced recovery and longevity treatments under one roof.

High-end fitness clubs are increasingly incorporating amenities such as saunas, cold plunges, IV infusions, and longevity facials. This shift is driven by a changing perception of performance, where recovery is now seen as equally important as the workout itself. "For years, fitness was all about pushing harder, going faster, more reps, more miles, more intensity. Today, people have realized that performance isn’t just built in the workout; it’s built in what happens afterward," said Patrick Walsh, CEO of TMPL Fitness. "Recovery has become just as important as training because people aren’t simply chasing a certain look anymore. They want more energy, better sleep, less stress and the ability to perform at a high level every day."

The demand for such services is evident in fitness data. ClassPass reported that sports recovery was the fastest-growing workout category in 2025, with significant surges in appointments for stretching, cupping, sauna, meditation, and massage.

Luxury Fitness Destinations

Several high-profile gyms exemplify this trend. Life Time Sky in Manhattan offers a range of recovery options, including a steam room, sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge, alongside a Dynamic Stretch Program. Specialists guide members through stretching, range-of-motion work, and breathing exercises, utilizing tools like massage guns, dry hot and cold therapy chairs, and compression boots. Membership at Life Time Sky begins at $348 per month.

TMPL Baths, a luxury gym on Madison Avenue, features contrast therapy with icy cold plunge tubs and infrared and Himalayan salt saunas. It also includes a eucalyptus-infused steam room and a hot tub. "Members increasingly expect one destination where they can exercise, recover, relax and reconnect," Walsh noted. "That combination creates a more complete wellness experience and builds stronger daily habits." Unlimited access to TMPL Baths costs $420 per month.

E by Equinox Madison Avenue provides a personalized experience with a premium fitness center, diverse workout classes, and advanced recovery options like compression therapy and full-body LightStim red light therapy. Members also have access to physical therapy, nutrition counseling, and spa services, including massage therapy and a "longevity facial." Annual membership at this club is $26,000.

Vosk Center, a members-only precision performance center, aims to balance fitness and recovery for longevity. After an initial assessment, members receive personalized protocols from a team of trainers, physical therapists, and clinicians. Amenities include a Finnish sauna, steam room, cold plunge, and a sensory deprivation room. For those recommended by their care team, services like hormone replacement therapy, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and IV infusions are available. Membership is capped at 150 people and costs approximately $42,000 annually, including training sessions and gym access.

Continuum in the West Village offers an AI-powered social wellness experience, providing members with personalized wellness plans. Its facilities include a gym, red light therapy, float tanks, saunas, cold plunges, massages, IV infusions, and a hyperbaric chamber. Continuum also serves as a social and work hub, with dining, meeting spaces, and concierge services. Memberships range up to $100,000 per year, with invitation-only entry capped at 250 members.

Broader Access to Recovery

The recovery trend is also reaching more accessible fitness options. 24 Hour Fitness introduced Recovery24, a wellness zone available at select clubs nationwide. This area features massage chairs, zero-gravity recliners, percussion massage guns, and compression boots. Recovery24 is included with premium memberships or can be added for approximately $9.99 per month. However, these facilities are not currently available within New York City limits.

"Recovery shouldn’t be reserved for professional athletes or luxury wellness facilities," said Derek Gallup, vice president of Fitness at 24 Hour Fitness. "Everyone, regardless of fitness level, can benefit from taking care of their body physically and mentally."
