Noel Gallagher's London Mansion Suffers Structural Issues Months After Purchase

Musician Noel Gallagher's recently purchased £11.5 million mansion in North London is reportedly facing significant repair needs, including 'structural movement,' a leaky roof, and rising damp, according to planning documents submitted to Westminster Council. The Grade II-listed, five-level property, acquired by Gallagher last year, was previously converted from flats into a single residence.

Planning documents detail issues such as 'water ingress from roof level,' 'rising damp at lower levels,' and 'deterioration of roof covering,' alongside 'previous unsympathetic alterations.' Gallagher has reportedly removed fixtures and fittings from all seven bedrooms, leaving them as empty shells.

Gallagher has sought permission for renovations, some of which have been approved by council planners for like-for-like replacement or repair. However, he is still awaiting approval for proposed changes including the replacement of windows with double-glazed sash units and alterations to the rear extension's roof and doors. He also plans to convert an interlinking building into a one-bedroom guest suite.

The renovation plans emphasize a sustainable approach, aiming to minimize construction waste through careful deconstruction and recycling. The architects' report supporting the application states that the proposed works are limited to the repair and renewal of existing building fabric using matching traditional materials and techniques. The goal is to remedy deterioration, ensure weather-tightness, and maintain the historic structure's long-term viability. Original internal features are slated for retention and refurbishment, with works focusing on removing later, non-original elements lacking heritage significance.
