Nigella Lawson Ventures into the Drinks Business
The celebrity chef has launched 'Bar Nigella Limited,' a wholesale venture for wine, beer, and spirits, marking a new commercial chapter.
Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson is expanding her commercial ventures with the launch of Bar Nigella Limited, a new business focused on wholesaling wine, beer, and spirits. This move signifies a significant diversification for Lawson, who previously expressed reservations about alcohol due to its effect on her anxiety.
Lawson, who gained widespread recognition for her role on "The Great British Bake Off," has never before endorsed alcoholic beverages. She has spoken candidly about her past experiences with alcohol, noting in 2018 that it could exacerbate her anxiety. "At first it gets rid of it all. But then afterwards, [there’s] that horrible tight feeling of worry and just generally not feeling quite right," she said.
The firm's co-director is Alex Fane, 33, Lawson's agent and the operator of the Henley Festival. Fane and Lawson have collaborated for over a decade, and they were photographed together in 2022.
Bar Nigella Limited positions Lawson among other celebrities who have entered the beverage market, including Kylie Minogue, Gary Barlow, Graham Norton, and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. This venture marks a potential commercial renaissance for the chef, following her recent re-engagement with celebrity culture.
