New Car Buyers Can Save an Average of $1,049 by Negotiating Before End of June
Dealers facing half-year sales targets offer deeper discounts, but informed buyers can uncover additional savings.
Car buyers looking for a new vehicle can secure significant discounts before the end of June as dealerships scramble to meet half-year sales targets. Market experts at Insider Car Deals report that this period offers some of the most generous savings, deposit contributions, and finance rates of the year. However, a gap often exists between the 'best price' offered to typical customers and the maximum discount achievable through more aggressive negotiation.
This 'Discount Gap,' as tracked by Insider Car Deals, represents an average of $1,049 across ten popular models. These savings are particularly relevant as the third quarter, beginning July 1, typically sees increased showroom demand and less incentive for dealers to offer deep price cuts, especially with the September new registration plate approaching.
Pat Hoy, founder of Insider Car Deals, explained that salespeople often hold back their best offers until prompted by informed buyers. To illustrate this, Insider Car Deals conducted mystery shopping across ten models, revealing the difference between the typical discount and the maximum achievable saving.
