Michelin Guide Awards 2026 Keys to Australian Hotels, Highlighting Luxury Stays

The Michelin Guide has unveiled its 2026 Global Michelin Keys Selection, recognizing 2,832 hotels worldwide for offering outstanding stays. Australia has seen a significant increase in accolades, with over 20 hotels newly added to the prestigious list and three existing properties receiving coveted promotions.

The selection process involves anonymous visits by Michelin inspectors who independently assess hotels to identify those delivering exceptional experiences. This year's Australian recipients reflect the diversity of the country's luxury accommodation, from remote island hideaways and wilderness lodges to architectural gems and sophisticated city hotels.

Similar to Michelin Stars for restaurants, Michelin Keys distinguish excellence in hotels. The program, first introduced in 2024 across North America, Europe, and Asia, has now expanded globally. Hotels can earn One, Two, or Three Michelin Keys, signifying a 'very special stay,' an 'exceptional stay,' and an 'extraordinary stay,' respectively.

Among the top-tier recognitions, Saffire Freycinet in Tasmania and Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island have both been promoted to Three Michelin Keys. Saffire Freycinet, nestled in the rugged bushland of Tasmania's east coast, features 20 timber-lined suites and tailored nature experiences. Southern Ocean Lodge, perched above the coastline of Kangaroo Island, offers contemporary Australian design across 25 sea-facing rooms, complemented by gourmet dining and spa treatments.

Capella Sydney, located in the heart of the city, has been elevated to Two Michelin Keys. The hotel, housed in a heritage landmark near Circular Quay, showcases art and design inspired by Australian Aboriginal culture and its surroundings, blending historic character with modern luxury.

Sequoia Lodge, situated in the Adelaide Hills, makes its debut with an impressive Two Michelin Keys. This intimate property offers 14 private suites designed to connect guests with the surrounding landscape through features like expansive moon windows, hot pools, native wildlife encounters, and seasonal dining.

Several other properties received One Michelin Key, including Ardour Milton Park in Bowral, Blackbird Byron Bay, Chalets at Blackheath, El Questro - The Homestead, Gaia Retreat & Spa, Halcyon House, InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula, and InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach. The full list of One Key hotels also includes Lanson Place Parliament Gardens, Le Mas Barossa, Lon Retreat & Spa, Maleny Lodge, Mount Lofty House & Estate Adelaide Hills, Mt Mulligan Lodge, Pretty Beach House, Sticky Rice Villas, The Corinda Collection, The Langham Melbourne, The Porter House Hotel Sydney - MGallery, The Sanctuary at Alba Thermal Springs & Spa, and The Sundays.

Additional hotels recognized with Two Keys include Capella Lodge, Jackalope Hotel, Longitude 131, Silky Oaks Lodge, Spicers Peak Lodge, Spicers Sangoma Retreat, and Thorngrove Manor. Three Keys were awarded to Lizard Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef in addition to Saffire Freycinet and Southern Ocean Lodge.
