Mercedes-Benz Tops Owner Satisfaction Survey, Luxury Brands Dominate Rankings
The 2026 Driver Power survey reveals that owners of premium vehicles report higher satisfaction, with Mercedes-Benz leading the pack.
Mercedes-Benz has been named the most satisfying car brand to own, according to the 2026 Driver Power survey, the UK's largest poll of car owners. The findings suggest a strong correlation between vehicle price and owner satisfaction, with luxury and premium marques dominating the top rankings.
The survey, which gathered feedback from over 100,000 UK car owners, assessed vehicles across categories including reliability, value for money, practicality, safety, and driving enjoyment. Mercedes-Benz achieved an overall score of 88.96%, excelling in six out of ten categories, notably driving enjoyment.
Following closely behind Mercedes-Benz was Alfa Romeo, securing second place with 87.17%. The brand was lauded for its styling, steering, and handling. Tesla ranked third with 86.91%, primarily driven by strong performance in powertrain and in-car technology.
"Mercedes-Benz took the overall win, but the bigger story is how strongly premium brands performed across the board," said Sarah Perks, vice president of content and publishing at Auto Express. "Nine of the top 10 manufacturers could be considered mainstream-premium or premium brands, while cheaper manufacturers generally struggled to match their satisfaction scores."
Conversely, budget marques were generally found at the lower end of the satisfaction scale. Dacia finished last overall, having ranked last in five categories. Including MG, four brands with a median model price below £28,000 were among the bottom 10.
The survey's findings indicate that while a higher price does not automatically guarantee satisfaction, owners who spend more tend to be more pleased with their vehicles. "When it comes to owner satisfaction, the old saying that you get what you pay for appears to hold true," Perks noted.
This contrasts with findings from the WarrantyWise Reliability Index, released in the month prior, which identified premium brands like Audi, BMW, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz as having the worst reliability records. That index focused on repair frequency, vehicle age, mileage, and labor time, excluding repair costs which are typically higher for luxury vehicles.

- Mercedes-Benz: 88.96% - Praised for luxury feel, refinement, and in-car technology, though running costs were a downside.

- Tesla: 86.91% - Strong in performance and technology, but divided opinions on design and build quality.
- Lexus: 86.71% - Consistently high in quality and reliability, also scoring well for interior comfort and practicality.
- BMW: 86.45% - Owners appreciated lavish interiors, infotainment, and powerful engines, with running costs being a concern.

The survey results indicate a clear trend where higher-priced vehicles from premium manufacturers tend to elicit greater satisfaction from their owners, even when facing potential issues like higher running costs or reliability concerns.
