Mega-Yachts Get a New Toy: Inflatable Adventure Parks Costing Up to £200,000

The concept of luxury on the water is evolving, as superyacht owners are increasingly investing in large-scale inflatable accessories to create private aquatic adventure parks. These elaborate inflatables, costing upwards of £200,000 for individual units, are becoming a must-have for the mega-rich, adding a new dimension to the traditional status symbol of yachting.

Industry experts note that the appeal of these inflatables lies in their flexibility. Unlike permanent fixtures, they can be rapidly deployed to expand a yacht's usable space, easily packed away when not in use, and extensively customized. John Courtney, managing director of FunAir, a specialist in superyacht inflatables, explained that for a limited cost and time, these accessories can significantly enhance the onboard experience on vessels where space is finite.

While inflatable slides, ranging from £2,000 to £15,000, remain a popular choice for providing thrills for all ages, the market has expanded to include a wide array of sophisticated attractions. Companies like FunAir are now designing multi-purpose inflatable playgrounds that integrate climbing walls, slides, shaded lounges, and launch pads into single structures.

Sea pools have also surged in demand, offering a safe and enclosed swimming area protected from marine life. These typically feature inflatable platforms and netting, with smaller versions costing around £10,000 and expansive beach club-style installations exceeding £100,000. Sea pools are in high-demand, providing swimming spaces that shield guests from jellyfish and marine life while providing easy access to the water

Floating trampolines, priced between £2,000 and £12,000 depending on size, offer a playful way to enter the water. Additionally, inflatable bars and lounge areas are being incorporated to emulate exclusive beach club atmospheres, complete with seating and drink stations. These complete setups, often part of larger inflatable beach clubs, can reach costs of up to £200,000. Some blow-up bars and sea pools come equipped with seating, sunbathing areas and drinks stations

Furthermore, inflatable sports facilities are gaining traction. What began as requests for collapsible courts has led to demand for inflatable pickleball and basketball courts that can be quickly assembled and stored. High-end custom commissions for floating sports platforms and activity zones are now commanding six-figure sums. Superyacht owners are forking out more than £200,000 alone on inflatable accessories

Some superyachts, such as the 68-meter motoryacht Loon, have fully embraced this trend, showcasing an extensive collection of inflatables. This demonstrates how the pursuit of innovative onboard entertainment is actively reshaping the superyacht experience, turning them into versatile floating resorts rather than just vessels.

In related luxury travel news, the six-star expedition yacht Scenic Eclipse II is scheduled to dock in Greenwich, London, on July 31. This vessel, equipped with helicopters and a submersible, offers an ultra-luxury experience designed for polar exploration, with suites starting at £4,495 per person for its London to Hamburg voyage.
