McMurtry Automotive Unveils Spéirling Pure: World's Fastest Accelerating Production Car
The electric hypercar achieves 0-60 mph in 1.5 seconds and is set for public debut at The Quail in August.
McMurtry Automotive has revealed the final production version of its Spéirling Pure, an electric hyper track car that achieves 0-60 mph in 1.5 seconds, earning it the title of the world's fastest accelerating production car. The vehicle, owned by Irish billionaire Sir David McMurtry and led by former Formula 1 engineer Thomas Yates, is priced at £995,000 (approximately $1.3 million USD).
The Spéirling Pure builds on the prototype that set a new Hillclimb record at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. McMurtry Automotive states that the production model features 95 percent new components compared to the prototype. After a decade of research and development and thousands of kilometers of testing, the Spéirling Pure is designed to offer F1-level performance, generating 3g in corners and under braking, with a top speed of 190 mph.
Designed and hand-built in the Cotswolds, the Spéirling Pure boasts an increased 100kWh battery capacity, up from the prototype's 60kWh. It also features enhanced regenerative braking, new Helix drive motors, and an upgraded gearbox. The larger dimensions of the production car provide increased cabin space, more room for entry and exit, and a dedicated boot compartment for a helmet.
Safety features for track use include indicators, hazard lights, brake lights, and headlights for nighttime driving. The car incorporates an electronic power steering system with F1-style valving for lighter steering and improved driver feedback. McMurtry's proprietary downforce-on-demand technology provides 2,000 kg of downforce from 0 mph, aided by two high-speed fans that create a strong suction effect.
The interior has been upgraded with lower seating custom-molded to the owner and a bespoke, adjustable racing-style steering wheel with a rev paddle. A central screen displays key performance information, including power, state of charge, and temperatures.
The Spéirling Pure is eligible for track days and competitive events, such as Global Time Attack in the US and European Attack Masters at the Nürburgring. McMurtry offers a full factory support program to assist owners. The vehicle can recharge from 20 to 95 percent in 20 to 60 minutes, depending on ambient conditions and charger power. A portable 100kW storage powerbank is also available for charging at venues without high-speed infrastructure.
The car will be displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 9-12 and will make its official public debut in full production form at The Quail in Monterey, California, on August 14. The price of £995,000 excludes local taxes, shipping, and optional extras.
