Luxury Lobster Salad Price Climbs to Nearly $130 Per Pound
An upscale New York deli's popular lobster salad, which drew national attention two years ago for its $120 per pound price, is now listed at $129.99 per pound.
The Red Horse Market in East Hampton, New York, has increased the price of its lobster salad by nearly 8% since it first garnered widespread attention. In 2024, the deli was selling the item for $120 per pound. Current pricing shows the lobster salad available for $129.99 per pound.
Christian Pineda, the store manager, stated that the higher price is due to the quality of ingredients used. "For our customers, they're primarily focused on quality. The local quality is what they want, especially with our meats and seafoods," Pineda told the New York Post.
While some customers have voiced complaints about the cost, others in the area consider the market to be relatively reasonably priced for the quality it offers. For comparison, typical lobster rolls on the East Coast can range from $25 to over $40, not including the bun and other additions. At the Red Horse Market's current price, a portion of lobster salad sufficient for a single roll, weighing approximately 4 to 6 ounces, would cost between $32 and $49 before additional ingredients.
The high price point has previously drawn reactions online, with some social media users questioning the value of pre-made lobster salad at such a cost. Comments included suggestions that the salad should be prepared fresh to order or that the price was excessive for a dish that includes mayonnaise and other mix-ins.
