Luxury Holmby Hills Estate Finds Buyer After 11-Year Saga

A significant Holmby Hills estate, formerly owned by fashion designer Max Azria, has reportedly found a buyer after an 11-year presence on the real estate market. The property, listed at various times for as much as $88 million, was last seeking $43.5 million.

The deal for the 2.8-acre property at 10250 W. Sunset Blvd. has not yet closed, but prospective buyers are no longer permitted to tour the grounds, according to brokers. The final sale price has not been disclosed.

The estate, once known as Maison du Soleil, was originally built in 1939 by architect Paul Williams, the first Black member of the American Institute of Architects. It was designed for radio star Charles Correll and was his largest creation at the time. Williams also designed homes for Hollywood stars such as Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra.

In 1978, Oscar-winning writer Sidney Sheldon purchased the estate and reportedly doubled its size before selling it to the Azrias. Max and Lubov Azria acquired the property for $14.4 million in 2005. They first listed it for $85 million in 2015, subsequently raising the price to $88 million in 2016. Max Azria, founder of the BCBG Max Azria brand, passed away in 2019.

Over the years, the estate's price saw significant fluctuations. By 2023, it was listed for $55 million, and in the past year, it was reduced to $39 million. The property has also attracted notable interest, with Jennifer Lopez reportedly considering it during her relationships with Ben Affleck.

One previous sale attempt involved billionaire Ron Burkle, who made a winning $30 million bid at an auction two years ago. However, that deal collapsed due to a court dispute over its terms.

The estate features a Georgian Colonial main house, along with separate structures for guests, work, and entertainment. The grounds include an infinity pool, a glass-enclosed tennis court with stadium seating, a Japanese garden and teahouse, Mediterranean gardens, a Moroccan-inspired bathhouse with a hammam, a formal French courtyard, and a working greenhouse. The main house includes a grand foyer, parquet wood floors, and large entertaining rooms. The primary suite features a marble fireplace and sitting area. An additional 6,000-square-foot structure contains a home theater, lounge, and home office with a gold-leaf ceiling.

The listing agents for the property are Mauricio Umansky and Farah Levi of The Agency.
