Luxury Gas Station 'Maggie's Refuel' Set to Open in Los Angeles in 2027
The new establishment aims to transform the traditional gas station experience into a five-star culinary and convenience stop.
Los Angeles is preparing to welcome Maggie's Refuel, the city's first luxury gas station, scheduled to open in 2027. Food-tech entrepreneur Alex Canter is behind the concept, aiming to elevate the routine pit stop into a high-end experience inspired by Japan's 7-Eleven and Italy's Autogrill.
Maggie's will offer a curated selection of elevated soft-serve ice cream and pastries from a local bakery, alongside convenience store staples like candy and beverages. The establishment will also feature electric vehicle chargers to cater to EV drivers. A mobile app is planned to provide customers with loyalty points and rewards.
Canter, who previously sold his virtual restaurant company Nextbite, envisions Maggie's as a destination where customers can discover new treats and indulge themselves. He stated that hospitality is central to his vision, drawing inspiration from the curated convenience store concept of Foxtrot Market, which closed in 2024.
"We see an opportunity to create something that’s very exciting, and something that people will want to go in and discover new treats and treat themselves," Canter told CSP Daily News. "Hospitality is in my blood. I’m a big foodie."
Maggie's Refuel has secured $2 million in pre-seed funding from investors including Matchstick Ventures, Mucker Capital, and Everywhere Ventures. The venture is also supported by prominent figures in the business sector, such as Jim Keyes, former president and CEO of 7-Eleven, and Meredith Sandland, a former Starbucks executive vice president. Online reactions to the concept have been mixed, with some expressing enthusiasm for a luxury convenience store upgrade and others questioning the necessity of such an establishment.
