Liechtenstein Reports Cyberattack on Beneficial Ownership Register

Liechtenstein's government announced that a cyberattack has compromised its register of beneficial owners, impacting the data of approximately 31,000 individuals. The breach occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday last week, with the incident being detected on Thursday.

Measures were taken to secure the data and take the affected system offline. The government stated that there are currently no indications that any data was altered or deleted as a result of the attack. The register of economic beneficiaries is a key component of efforts to combat money laundering and terror financing.

Liechtenstein, a principality with a population of 40,000 situated between Switzerland and Austria, relies heavily on its financial industry. A crisis unit was established over the weekend to investigate the cyberattack.
