Levi's Collaborates with Designer Christelle Kocher for Couture Denim Collection
The high-fashion partnership features handcrafted jeans with price tags estimated up to $40,000.
Levi's has entered the realm of haute couture with a new collection of designer jeans created in partnership with French designer Christelle Kocher. The 11-piece line, which debuted during Paris Haute Couture Week, blends Kocher's signature intricate detailing with the iconic denim brand.
Kocher, known for her work with Chanel on embroidery and appliqués, as well as her own label Koché, which has been worn by artists like Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, incorporated elements such as hand-sewn chiffon and beaded French lace into the collection. The designs include embellished carpenter pants, sheer black bellbottoms, and white skater jeans, with Levi's executive vice president and chief product officer Karyn Hillman describing the collaboration as a "flower bomb of denim and feathers."
While specific pricing for the Levi's x Koché collection has not been released, similar haute couture denim pieces can range from $10,000 to $30,000. In one instance, a pair of embellished slouchy jeans worn by supermodel Kaia Gerber for Valentino was reportedly priced around $40,000.
This is not Levi's first foray into high fashion. The brand previously collaborated with Miu Miu in 2021. The move also echoes fashion history, as Jean Paul Gaultier caused a stir by featuring handcrafted jeans on the runway approximately 30 years ago. Recent couture collections from brands like Balenciaga and Mugler have also included denim.
Levi's has indicated that the couture denim pieces may be available for special order in the future, suggesting a potential for high-end offerings that could significantly differ from the brand's more accessible price points.
