Jeff Bezos in Talks to Invest in Liverpool Football Club

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reportedly held discussions about investing in Premier League club Liverpool. Bezos, the world's fourth-richest man with an estimated net worth of $256.9 billion, has been approached to join a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia.

Bhatia's group is in talks with Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), regarding a "strategic minority investment." Daily Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, is aiming for a deal that could value the club at over £4.5 billion ($6 billion).

Sky News reported that Bezos has engaged in discussions about working with Bhatia's consortium. It remains unclear if Bezos will ultimately fund a stake in the team. He has previously considered bids for NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders, but did not proceed with those deals.

Bhatia has prior experience in football ownership, having been a co-owner of Queens Park Rangers. He recently stepped down from his role with the Championship club. A spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group confirmed that an investment consortium represented by Bhatia has expressed interest in a minority investment in Liverpool.

If the investment proceeds, it would follow a similar structure to a deal from three years ago when FSG sold a small stake to the sports investment firm Dynasty. Liverpool is currently in the United States for its pre-season tour, with upcoming matches in Nashville, New York, and Chicago.
