JD Sports Plans Major Expansion with Over 140 New Stores in Mexico
The UK-based retailer aims to tap into Mexico's growing activewear market through a partnership with Grupo Axo.
JD Sports Fashion has announced ambitious plans to open more than 140 new stores in Mexico, marking a significant step in its international expansion strategy.
The retail chain intends to leverage the rapidly expanding activewear market in the region. This initiative is being undertaken through a partnership with Grupo Axo, a company specializing in helping brands develop their presence in Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay. The collaboration will officially introduce the JD brand to the Mexican market.
Starting in 2027, Grupo Axo is set to manage over 140 JD stores across Mexico. JD plans for key locations to undergo expansion and refurbishment, adopting the retailer's 'bigger and better' format. The company cited Mexico's activewear market, fueled by interests such as running, football, and fashion, as a key driver for this move. The significant population under the age of 25 in Mexico is also seen as a crucial demographic for growth.
Regis Schultz, JD Sports' boss, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, stating, "Bringing JD to this thriving market is an exciting milestone in our story. JD’s product offering aligns closely with consumer demand in Mexico."
