Influencer Claims Luxury Resort Canceled Reservation, Called Police
Ryan Walker says he arrived at the newly opened Amanvari hotel in Mexico to find his booking canceled via email, leading to a confrontation with security.
Travel influencer Ryan Walker has accused the luxury Amanvari hotel in Mexico of canceling his reservation at the last minute and subsequently calling the police when he arrived. Walker, who reviews high-end hotels on his YouTube channel, stated that he had booked a room at the new Aman hotel property, which opened August 1 on Baja California Sur's East Cape, where rooms can cost approximately $6,000 per night.
Upon arrival after a two-hour drive from the nearest airport, Walker was reportedly stopped at the hotel's gate by security. He was informed that his reservation could not be found in the system, despite having booked weeks in advance and having prior communication with the hotel. Walker claims he was prevented from speaking with a manager and that law enforcement was called.
He later discovered an email sent the night before his scheduled check-in, which he had missed, explaining the cancellation. The email cited that the resort, still in its early operational phase, had made the "difficult decision to reduce arrivals" and was "unable to welcome" him as planned. Walker expressed frustration that the hotel did not contact him directly and instead relied on an email, which he did not see before his arrival.
Walker, who stated he had informed the hotel of his intention to film a review and received assurances that it would be accommodated in private spaces, believes his reservation was canceled because the hotel was not ready for guests and potentially because of his status as a reviewer. He described the experience as "one of the most disappointing and embarrassing hotel experiences" of his career and suggested that the hotel's handling of the situation reflects poorly on its readiness and its approach to independent reviews.
"If they're not ready to have reviewers, they should not have launched," Walker stated. He added that silencing independent reviews allows corporations to fully control the narrative, compromising the integrity of the hospitality industry. He concluded that he could not recommend the property given the incident. The Daily Mail has reached out to Amanvari for comment.
