Guernsey Sees 19% Surge in Energy Prices Over Past Year
Overall inflation reached 4.3% in June 2026, with fuel and light costs significantly impacting household expenses.
Energy prices in Guernsey have risen by 19% over the past year, contributing to a broader increase in the Retail Prices Index (RPI) to 4.3% for the year ending June 2026. This significant jump in energy costs was the largest increase reported within the fuel and light group.
Alongside the rise in energy prices, other groups also experienced notable inflation. The tobacco group saw a 11.7% increase, and the catering group rose by 6.3% compared to the same period in the previous year. These figures are part of the latest Retail Prices Indices and Household Costs Indices (HCI) statistics released for the region.
The report also highlighted that households with one or more retired adults registered the highest overall increase in their Household Costs Index, reaching 5.2%. These statistics reflect the changing economic landscape and its direct impact on consumer spending and household budgets in Guernsey.
