Greggs to Close Four Manufacturing Sites, Eliminating 740 Jobs
The bakery chain plans to consolidate operations over the next two and a half years.
Greggs, the high street bakery chain, has announced plans to close four of its manufacturing sites over the next two-and-a-half years, a move expected to result in the loss of approximately 740 jobs. The company stated that distribution operations at its Enfield site will remain unaffected.
The affected manufacturing locations include facilities in Enfield, North Lakes, Pettigrews, and Seaham. Greggs indicated that some manufacturing and packing activities will be relocated to other sites as part of this consolidation.
Further operational adjustments include the cessation of tinned bread production at the Gosforth facility. The range of products manufactured at the Clydesmill and Manchester sites will also be reduced, though manufacturing will continue at both locations.
