Google Cloud Outage Disrupts Services for Several UK Banks

Online services for several U.K. banks experienced disruptions on Tuesday due to an outage within Google Cloud's infrastructure. The issues began shortly after 2 a.m. eastern time, or 6:08 a.m. GMT, with London identified as the primary center of the disruption.

The affected banking institutions included Lloyds, Halifax, HSBC, and Revolut. A spokesperson for Revolut confirmed the service disruption, stating in an email that "all our customers’ money and data are safe." The company added that it had been working to resolve the issue since it was identified and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Google Cloud acknowledged the disruption, stating that its engineering team was investigating the problem. The company issued an apology to those affected and promised an update on the situation.

While the outage was concentrated in the U.K., its impact could extend to applications in other countries that rely on London-based infrastructure. Reports also indicated potential outages elsewhere in Europe, though it remained unclear if these were connected to the Google Cloud incident.
