Goody King Magnetic Toys Recalled Over Ingestion Hazard After Two Children Require Surgery
Approximately 213,500 units of Goody King magnetic building toys have been recalled in the U.S. due to a serious ingestion hazard that has already led to two children needing surgery.
Yi Suen Commerce has issued a recall for about 213,500 units of its “Goody King” magnetic building toys in the United States. The recall was prompted by a significant ingestion hazard, where the toy's building cubes can break or come apart, releasing small, powerful magnets.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a notice detailing the risks associated with these loose magnets. According to the CPSC, when multiple high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other or other metal objects within the digestive system. This can lead to severe internal injuries, including perforations, twisting, and blockages of the intestines, which can be life-threatening. At least two children have required surgery to remove magnets ingested from these toys.
Yi Suen Commerce, the seller of the recalled toys, is aware of these two surgical incidents and has also received at least 27 reports of the toy cubes breaking or opening. The company urges consumers who possess the recalled magnetic toys to cease using them immediately.
Customers are advised to contact Yi Suen Commerce for a full refund. The Hong Kong-based company has stated that it will provide prepaid shipping labels for customers to return the recalled products. Refunds will be processed upon the company's physical receipt of the returned items. Receipts are not required for the refund process.
