Global Markets Mixed as Oil Prices Stabilize, US Stocks End Winning Week

Global shares traded with mixed results on Monday as oil prices cooled last week, contributing to U.S. stocks ending their first winning streak in three weeks. Major European indices saw modest gains in early trading, with France's CAC 40 edging up 0.3%, the German DAX adding 0.2%, and Britain's FTSE 100 rising 0.3%. U.S. stock futures indicated a slight downturn, with Dow futures dipping 0.3% and S&P 500 futures shedding 0.4%.

In Asia, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 declined 0.7%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 saw a 0.2% increase. South Korea's Kospi dipped 2.7%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.5%, contrasted by a 1.7% loss in Shanghai's Composite index.

Energy markets showed volatility, with benchmark U.S. crude gaining 3.41% to $95.56 a barrel and Brent crude, the international standard, rising 3.73% to $108.21 a barrel. Last week, Brent crude had briefly dropped to the $97 level, reflecting ongoing uncertainty regarding the conflict with Iran and its impact on oil flow from the Middle East, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.

Market participants are closely monitoring upcoming inflation indicators to gauge the potential for continued hawkish stances from global central banks. Additionally, shares of artificial intelligence companies are drawing attention, as these firms continue to report strong earnings despite public discourse on the risks associated with AI technology.

In currency markets, the U.S. dollar weakened against the Japanese yen, falling to 156.93 yen from 157.19 yen. The euro also saw a slight decrease, costing $1.1377, down from $1.1393.
