Galanz Recalls Over 120,000 Refrigerators Due to Fire Hazard

Galanz Americas is recalling approximately 121,680 refrigerators due to a fire and burn hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday. The recall comes after federal regulators received 34 reports of fires originating from the appliances, one of which resulted in a fatality, according to a local fire department report.

The recalled Galanz Retro Refrigerators have date codes ranging from December 2018 through December 2020. These units were sold in black, blue, red, and white and measure about 58 inches tall, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide. They feature left- or right-hand opening doors with handles, three adjustable glass shelves, and one drawer, with a top freezer that has a separate door and a single drawer. The Galanz logo is printed on the front of these models.

The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and online via Amazon between January 2019 and September 2022. The purchase price ranged from $330 to $520.

The CPSC stated that the internal electrical components of the affected refrigerators can short-circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death. Consumers are strongly advised to immediately unplug and stop using the recalled refrigerators. Galanz will arrange for a free in-home repair by a qualified technician.
