Ford Recalls Over 110,000 Mustang Vehicles for Safety Defects
NHTSA identifies issues with windshield wipers and rear drivetrain components that could increase crash risks in Mustang and Mustang Mach-E models.
Ford is initiating two separate recalls affecting more than 110,000 vehicles in the United States due to safety defects identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recalls address potential issues with windshield wipers and a rear drivetrain component, both of which could elevate the risk of a crash.
One recall involves 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles. According to NHTSA, under specific cold-weather conditions, the windshield wipers might only operate at their high-speed setting, and the windshield washer system may not function correctly. This malfunction could lead to reduced visibility, increasing the likelihood of an accident.
A second, separate recall impacts 42,784 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. In these models, the rear differential pinion shaft could fracture. NHTSA stated that this defect might result in a loss of drive power. Furthermore, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake engaged, it could move unintentionally, posing an additional crash risk.
Dealers will perform the necessary repairs or replacements for the affected components at no cost to the owners. Ford shares were trading flat in early trading and have risen more than five percent year-to-date.
