Football Transfer Window Heats Up with Key Deals in Motion
Edson Alvarez sought by Ajax, Aston Villa winger Tommi O'Reilly in talks with Notts County, and Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri nearing Torino move.
The summer football transfer window, open until September 1, is seeing significant activity as clubs prepare for the upcoming season. Several high-profile deals are reportedly in progress, including interest from Ajax in West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, Aston Villa winger Tommi O'Reilly in discussions for a loan to Notts County, and Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri expected to join Torino.
Ajax are reportedly seeking to re-sign Edson Alvarez, who moved from the Dutch club to West Ham in 2023 for £35 million. While West Ham are seeking approximately £12.5 million for the 28-year-old midfielder, Ajax sources suggest outstanding payments from the initial transfer are a factor in negotiations. Alvarez, who spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, has faced challenges meeting expectations since his departure from Amsterdam. Real Sociedad has also expressed interest, proposing a smaller, structured deal.
Aston Villa winger Tommi O'Reilly is currently in talks for a loan move to League One club Notts County. Initially considered for Sheffield Wednesday, further discussions led Villa to believe Meadow Lane would be more beneficial for the 22-year-old's development. O'Reilly had a strong season with Crewe last term, and Aston Villa hopes he can maintain that form under Notts County coach Martin Paterson. Notts County recently secured Australian forward Luka Smyth from Finnish club VPS on a three-year contract.
Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri is anticipated to join Torino on loan, with an option for a permanent transfer, contingent on the completion of a deal for James Trafford. Trafford, 23, is reportedly close to signing a contract worth around £130,000 per week, with Manchester City and Leeds finalizing terms on an expected £40 million transfer that includes add-ons and a sell-on clause. Torino and Leeds have agreed on an initial loan for Perri for the upcoming season, with an option for Leeds to buy him permanently next summer. Leeds goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier have departed the squad this summer for Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively. The club is also looking to strengthen its squad with additions at left-back, attacking midfield, and striker.
