Fire Engulfs Quaker Oats Plant in Cedar Rapids
An explosion reportedly preceded the blaze at the Iowa facility, with all workers accounted for safely.

A fire erupted Saturday at a Quaker Oats plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky. Firefighters responded to the scene around 4:45 p.m. local time.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department indicated that the fire likely began with an explosion. Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell confirmed in a Facebook video that all employees were safely evacuated and accounted for, with no injuries reported.
The affected area of the plant was used for handling products and was not heavily populated with workers, which O’Donnell described as fortunate. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
PepsiCo Foods US, the parent company of Quaker Oats, stated that emergency responders were at the scene and that an investigation into the origin of the blaze would be conducted.
The Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids is recognized as the world's largest oat milling operation, processing over 2 million pounds of oats daily. The Quaker Oats brand is set to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2027.
