Fiat Unveils Multiplay Concept: A Flexible Six-Seater That Transforms into a Pickup Truck
The innovative concept vehicle, inspired by Fiat's heritage, showcases modularity for urban and cargo needs.
Fiat has introduced the Multiplay concept, a versatile vehicle designed to adapt from a six-seat passenger car to a four-seat pickup truck. The 4.45-meter-long concept aims to combine the space efficiency of an MPV, the character of an SUV, and the adaptability of a pickup.
The transformation is facilitated by its 'Metamorfosi' C-pillar, a rear module that slides longitudinally. This allows the vehicle to convert from an enclosed family configuration to an open-bed pickup in just a few movements. In its passenger mode, the Multiplay can accommodate six people plus an additional 'Petsenger seat'. When configured as a pickup, it seats four and offers an open bed suitable for carrying bicycles, sports equipment, or other outdoor gear.
Further enhancing its utility, the rear spoiler can rotate to function as an integrated bike rack, capable of holding two bicycles when in pickup mode. This feature underscores the vehicle's ability to adapt its cargo capacity to user needs.
Fiat states that the Multiplay is conceived as a 'laboratory of solutions for tomorrow's mobility' and is not a direct preview of a specific production model. The concept draws inspiration from Fiat's legacy, including the 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla, which seated six in approximately 3.5 meters, and the 1998 Multipla, which offered six seats in a footprint under four meters long. These historical models are noted for redefining the relationship between exterior dimensions and interior space.
The public will have the opportunity to see the Multiplay concept at the Paris Motor Show, scheduled to open on October 12.
