Ferrari Affirms Support for Team Principal Vasseur Amid Speculation

Ferrari has publicly declared its full confidence in team principal Fred Vasseur, issuing an unprecedented, last-minute media call to address and dismiss speculation about his future and potential succession by Christian Horner.

Maria Conti, Ferrari's chief communications officer, stated during an online conference with approximately 15 reporters that the team "want[s] to end speculation over the leadership of the team." She added, "I am officially saying that Ferrari has made its choices and has full confidence in Fred Vasseur and his team. Nothing has changed."

Vasseur has faced pressure due to a lack of championship success during his tenure, which began in 2023. Despite the team's significant investment, including an £80 million-a-year contract for Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari has not contended for a world championship under his leadership.

Further criticism within the organization has reportedly stemmed from Vasseur's reluctance to learn Italian, opting instead to communicate in English or French. The 58-year-old team principal is also believed to be experiencing health issues related to stress, according to a report from Daily Mail Sport.

Christian Horner, previously team principal at Red Bull, had been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Ferrari role. Horner himself has spoken of Ferrari's allure, telling The Times, "At this stage in my life, there’s only one team for which I would accept non-participation in ownership... Ferrari is the biggest brand in Formula One. It’s the dream."

However, Ferrari's statement of support for Vasseur appears to close the door on Horner's immediate prospects with the Italian team. The report from Daily Mail Sport notes that promises of continuity at Ferrari have not always held true, referencing the situation with former team principal Mattia Binotto in 2022, who was assured of his position before his eventual departure.
