EV Charging Operator MFG Slashes Summer Prices by 25%
Motor Fuel Group EV Power reduces ultra-rapid charging costs to 59p/kWh for three months amidst rising household energy prices.
Motor Fuel Group (MFG) EV Power, a major electric vehicle public charging operator in the UK, is cutting its prices by 25% for the summer months. The company has reduced the cost of charging at its ultra-rapid sites from 79 pence per kilowatt-hour (p/kWh) to 59p/kWh for a three-month period, effective from July through September.
This nationwide discount aims to make summer holiday travel more affordable and sustainable for EV drivers. According to MFG, the 20p/kWh saving will put up to £6 back into drivers' pockets on a typical charge. Its ultra-rapid chargers are capable of adding approximately 100 miles of range to an EV battery in just 10 minutes.
The price reduction places MFG among the cheapest ultra-rapid EV charging providers in the UK, at a time when household energy prices have seen an increase. The energy price cap rose by 13% on July 1, impacting average household bills. For households on standard tariffs without smart meters, there's an appeal to submit meter readings to avoid potential overcharges based on previous consumption at higher rates.
Ofgem's price cap dictates the maximum unit cost for gas and electricity for homes on standard tariffs. Under the new rates, electricity costs per kilowatt-hour have increased from 24.67p to 26.11p, and gas charges have risen from 5.74p to 7.33p per kWh. These changes are projected to add approximately £221 annually to the average gas and electricity bill. The increase in global energy wholesale prices, partly influenced by the conflict in the Middle East, is cited as a primary driver for the energy price hikes.
Martin Symes, EV Director at Motor Fuel Group, stated that the summer price drop demonstrates the company's commitment to British EV drivers. "We are putting you first, cutting our ultra-rapid charging rate to just 59p/kWh so that your summer journeys are cheaper, greener, and hassle-free," Symes said. He added that with thousands of chargers across the UK and now one of the lowest rapid charging prices, it is an opportune time to switch to electric vehicles.
The summer promotion is available across MFG EV Power's network of 600 locations nationwide. The company operates over 2,000 charging bays, all powered by 100% renewable energy. These charging hubs are integrated with MFG's fuel forecourt sites. Additionally, MFG has installed rapid EV charging bays at nearly 300 Morrisons supermarkets, aiming to provide convenient charging options for shoppers. Other retail partners include Greggs, Pret A Manger, Burger King, Subway, and Costa.
Payment at MFG charging points can be made via contactless credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Android Pay. An EV Power app is also available for users to locate charging points and manage charging sessions. The ultra-rapid chargers offer speeds of 150kW, 300kW, and up to 400kW. Mfg EV Power has slashed its prices across all ultra-rapid charging sites from 79p to 59p/kWh for a three-month period saving EV drivers 25% when charging
