Edmunds Highlights 5 Key New Vehicle Debuts for the Coming Months

Automakers are preparing to introduce several significant new vehicle models in the coming months, with experts at Edmunds identifying five that stand out for their redesigns, new powertrains, or unique market positioning. These upcoming releases aim to capture consumer attention with advancements ranging from electric technology to more robust traditional options.

Nissan's best-selling Rogue is receiving its first complete redesign since 2021. The upcoming fourth-generation model will feature a new E-Power hybrid system, which operates more like an electric vehicle. In this setup, a small gasoline engine serves as a generator to recharge a battery that powers electric motors. Nissan claims this configuration will result in reduced noise and quicker acceleration compared to the current Rogue. The automaker estimates the Rogue Hybrid will achieve 38 mpg in combined city and highway driving, positioning it competitively within the small SUV segment, though slightly below offerings from the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 hybrids.

The Toyota Highlander is undergoing a substantial transformation for 2028, transitioning into an all-electric, three-row SUV with an estimated range of up to 320 miles. For consumers preferring gasoline or hybrid powertrains, Toyota will offer the larger Grand Highlander. Edmunds' initial drive of the electric Highlander indicated that its third-row seating is more accommodating than in the previous model, presenting a new family-oriented electric option to compete with vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9.

Audi is set to launch the 2027 Q9, its largest vehicle to date and a new full-size, three-row SUV designed to compete with rivals such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. This model will be powered by a 429-horsepower turbocharged V6 engine and offer seating for seven or a six-passenger configuration with captain's chairs in the second row. The Q9's third-row space is reported to be significantly more generous than in the also-redesigned Q7. The vehicle will incorporate Audi's latest technology and driver-assist features.

For budget-conscious buyers, the Slate Truck is generating significant interest. This debut model from an American startup is a compact, two-seat electric pickup truck designed to be smaller than the Ford Maverick. Notably, it comes with minimal factory features, omitting items like paint and an infotainment touchscreen, encouraging personalization. Buyers can even reconfigure the cargo bed for additional seating. While offering an intriguing affordable option, the Slate Truck has an estimated range of 205 miles and lacks many standard amenities found in other vehicles.

Chevrolet's full-size Silverado 1500 is also receiving its first redesign since 2019. The updated model will feature a more aggressive exterior design, a revised interior, and a standard 16.3-inch touchscreen. New V8 engine options will be available, including a 5.7-liter producing 402 horsepower and a 6.2-liter engine with 481 horsepower, surpassing previous Silverado V8 outputs. The lineup will also retain carryover turbocharged four-cylinder and diesel six-cylinder engines. GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology is expected to be available on higher trims. The Silverado 1500 will offer a wide range of variants, with prices potentially exceeding $80,000 for specialized trims like the ZR2 or High Country.

These forthcoming models represent significant updates and innovations across various vehicle segments, offering consumers a range of new choices in the automotive market.
