EasyJet's Longest Flight Offers Budget Travel to Cape Verde
A new six-hour route from London Gatwick to Sal, Cape Verde, provides an affordable long-haul option, though passengers must come prepared for a lack of in-flight amenities.
EasyJet has launched its longest-ever flight route, connecting London Gatwick with Sal, one of the Cape Verde islands off the west coast of Africa. The journey spans approximately 2,400 miles and takes about six hours to complete.
Despite the extended duration, the flight is priced comparably to many of easyJet's European destinations, with one-way fares starting at £113. However, passengers should be aware that the aircraft used for this service are the same models typically employed for short-haul routes. This means the flight lacks in-flight entertainment systems, Wi-Fi, and power outlets.
To navigate the extended journey without these amenities, travelers can equip themselves with specific travel accessories. A blackout eye mask with memory foam cushioning can aid in sleeping, while oval-shaped earplugs can help block out ambient noise. For connectivity and device charging, a universal travel adapter featuring multiple USB ports, including USB-C, is essential. A portable power bank, such as the Anker Power Bank, can serve as a crucial backup for keeping devices charged.
Staying hydrated is also important on longer flights. A well-sized water bottle, preferably with a straw to mitigate spillage risks during turbulence, is recommended. For personal comfort, a comfortable hoodie can provide warmth against cabin air conditioning, and a specialized neck pillow, like the TRTL neck pillow, can enhance sleep quality.
Longer flights also present an opportunity for entertainment. Over-the-ear, noise-canceling headphones can be beneficial for listening to music or podcasts. For reading, a lightweight e-reader, such as a Kindle, offers a compact option with long battery life. These items can help make the six-hour journey more comfortable and engaging.
