Drivers Urged to Use Fuel Price Comparison Tools Amid Significant Price Gaps

Motorists are encouraged to actively compare fuel prices to avoid overpaying, as significant price disparities exist between local petrol stations, according to the RAC.

A recent snapshot of fuel prices in Hull revealed a difference of over 11 pence per litre for petrol within a three-mile radius. For a 50-litre fuel tank, this difference translated to a saving of £5.65 between the highest and lowest priced stations. One Gulf station in Hull was selling unleaded fuel at 146.7 pence per litre, while another station approximately a mile away was priced over 5 pence higher.

Simon Williams, the RAC's head of policy, advised drivers to make more use of resources such as the government's Fuel Finder service and other comparison applications to achieve savings. However, some drivers find current prices still prohibitively high. Taxi driver Wayne Parsons, who covers approximately 200 miles daily, stated that even the lower prices are a significant burden on his livelihood.
