DoorDash to Acquire Instacart in $17 Billion Deal

DoorDash announced Thursday it is acquiring grocery delivery company Instacart in a deal valued at approximately $17 billion. The purchase price equates to $65.00 per Instacart share, representing a 26% premium over Instacart's closing price on October 22, 2026.

The combined company anticipates offering consumers a broader selection of stores and expedited delivery options. Instacart customers could gain access to an additional 50,000 stores. The deal also plans to offer a single membership fee covering both DoorDash's DashPass and Instacart's Instacart+.

DoorDash's delivery network and Instacart's grocery fulfillment technology are expected to be integrated across both companies' apps and on retailers' own websites. The merged entity will also leverage the advertising and AI tools developed by each company. DoorDash CEO Tony Xu stated that the combination would provide stores of all sizes with enhanced tools and unlock the potential of grocery delivery. Instacart CEO Chris Rogers noted the acquisition would improve the customer and shopper experience.

DoorDash intends to maintain Instacart's brand and app post-acquisition. The transaction is projected to conclude by the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028.
