Dollarama Garlic Powder Recalled in Canada Due to Possible Contamination

Heavenly Spices garlic powder sold at Dollarama stores nationwide is being recalled due to potential microbial contamination, according to an announcement from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The product is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and watery diarrhea. The CFIA has classified the recall as a Class 2 event, indicating a moderate risk of short-term or non-life-threatening health effects. Consumers who purchased the affected 70-gram containers of garlic powder are advised by Dollarama to discard the product. The company is offering a $2.00 e-gift card as compensation for the recalled item.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), symptoms of Bacillus cereus infection typically manifest within 24 to 48 hours. This bacterium is commonly found in foods such as meat, stews, gravies, vanilla sauce, and cooked rice that have not been stored at appropriate temperatures. This recall follows other recent food product withdrawals. Earlier this week, General Mills recalled over 735,000 packages of Pillsbury bread products due to concerns about possible glass contamination. Separately, fresh produce supplier Taylor Farms is reportedly preparing a recall related to ingredients linked to a multistate Cyclospora outbreak, although the company has stated its own branded salad products are not associated with the illnesses.
