Disney+ and Hulu Subscriptions to See Price Hikes
The media giant is reportedly increasing the cost of multiple streaming services, including ad-free tiers of Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney is planning to increase the prices for several of its streaming subscriptions, including the ad-free version of Disney+, according to a report from Bloomberg News citing individuals familiar with the matter. The company is expected to inform customers of the upcoming changes soon.
The monthly cost for the ad-free Disney+ plan will reportedly rise by $2.50, a 13% increase, bringing the total to $21.49. This move aligns with a broader trend among major streaming platforms that have been raising prices to boost revenue, offset increasing content expenses, and improve the profitability of their digital streaming operations.
Additionally, the ad-free version of Hulu will also see a monthly price increase of $2.50. The combined subscription for ad-free Disney+ and Hulu will increase by $2 to $21.99 per month. Disney has not yet commented on the reported price changes.
The standalone ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions are also expected to increase by $0.50, reaching $12.49 per month. However, the bundled ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu plan will remain at its current price of $12.99 per month.
These potential price adjustments follow recent executive changes at Disney, where Karandeep Anand was named chief technology officer and Adam Smith was appointed to lead the streaming business, signaling a continued focus on the company's core streaming platforms, Disney+ and Hulu, and their technological infrastructure.
