DIRECTV Unveils New Streaming Packages with Customizable Options
The company introduces four 'Signature Packages' and a range of 'Genre Packs' to offer viewers more control over their entertainment choices.
DIRECTV is introducing new subscription options aimed at simplifying the television viewing experience, which has become increasingly fragmented with the rise of numerous streaming services.
The company now offers two primary connection methods: satellite and streaming. For its streaming service, DIRECTV provides four tiered 'Signature Packages' designed to cater to different viewer needs and budgets. These packages vary in channel selection and price, with options ranging from the base Entertainment package to the comprehensive Premier package.
The Entertainment package, priced at $89.99 per month after an initial $59.99 for the first month, includes over 90 channels, featuring local channels where available, along with services like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, Bravo, Fox News, CNN, Hallmark, and MTV.
Stepping up, the Choice package costs $94.99 per month after a $64.99 introductory rate for the first month and expands the channel lineup to over 125, adding specialty sports networks, regional sports networks, NBA TV, MLB Network, Big Ten Network, and the Golf Channel.
For viewers seeking more movie and sports content, the Ultimate package is available for $124.99 per month after an $89.99 introductory price for the first month. It offers over 160 channels, including everything in the Choice package plus FXM, NHL Network, and CBS Sports.
The top-tier Premier package, priced at $169.99 per month after an initial $129.99 for the first month, provides over 185 channels. This includes all channels from the Ultimate package, plus premium networks such as HBO Max, Paramount+, and Starz.
Beyond the Signature Packages, DIRECTV has also introduced 'Genre Packs' for further customization. These packs allow subscribers to select curated groups of channels focused on specific interests.
Available Genre Packs include:
- MySports Base Pack: Priced at $64.99 per month after an initial $49.99, it includes ESPN+, ESPN, FS1, TNT, TBS, NFL Network, NHL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV, and local sports channels.
- MyEntertainment Base Pack: For $42.99 per month, this pack offers over 60 channels, including streaming services like Disney+ and Hulu Basic Bundle, Max with Ads, and entertainment channels such as AMC+, Bravo, E!, HGTV, and TLC.
- MyNews Base Pack: At $44.99 per month, this pack features more than 10 top news channels, including Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.
- Duo: MySports and MyNews: Combining the MySports and MyNews packs, this option costs $79.99 per month after an introductory rate of $59.99 for the first two months.
- Duo: MyEntertainment + MyNews: Priced at $74.99 per month after an initial $59.99, this combines entertainment and news channels.
- MyKids Base Pack: For $20.99 per month, it offers over 10 channels for children and families, including Disney+ Basic, Disney Channel, and Nickelodeon.
- MiEspañol Base Pack: At $37.99 per month, this pack includes over 60 Spanish-language networks, news, and sports channels.
Additional 'Mini Packs' are also available for further personalization, such as the MyCinema Mini Pack ($10.99/month) and the MySports Extra Mini Pack ($12.99/month after one month free). The MyHome Team pack, priced at $19.99 per month, focuses on regional sports networks and varies by market.
Subscribers can also add streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Hulu, Peacock, and AMC+ as add-ons directly through the DIRECTV app.
DIRECTV also offers a Gemini Air device, which functions as a streaming device similar to a Roku or Fire TV Stick. It connects to Wi-Fi and integrates live TV, On Demand content, and third-party streaming apps into a single interface, aiming to eliminate the need to switch between TV inputs. An internet-connected Gemini device and separate paid subscriptions are required for third-party apps.
A five-day free trial is available for DIRECTV streaming without a Gemini device. All of DIRECTV's base Signature Packages include local news channels, and certain plans can also provide access to regional sports networks specific to a viewer's market.
