Dacia Striker Crossover Set to Challenge Established Family Car Market Under £25,000
The Romanian automaker's new crossover aims to blend SUV, estate, and saloon characteristics with a focus on affordability and sustainability.
Dacia is preparing to launch its new Striker crossover, a vehicle designed to compete with popular family cars like the Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Octavia. With a projected starting price under £25,000, the Striker aims to expand Dacia's presence in the competitive C-segment market, where the company hopes to increase its sales share from 20% to 33% by 2030.
The Striker is described as a "jacked-up estate" that combines the elevated driving position and off-road capabilities of an SUV with the practicality of an estate car and the efficiency of a saloon. Dacia emphasizes that the new model retains the brand's core values of being a rugged yet stylish vehicle suitable for leisure use and environmentally conscious drivers.
Visually, the Striker leans towards an estate car appearance with raised ground clearance. Its design features flowing body lines inspired by saloons, an elongated roofline, and a raked windscreen, complemented by SUV-like elements such as a taut shoulder line and robust lower proportions. The vehicle measures 4.62 meters in length, suggesting ample cabin and luggage space, with a height of 1.53 meters positioning it between traditional saloons and larger SUVs.
Inside, the Striker features a new cockpit concept with a horizontal dashboard layout designed to enhance the sense of space. The interior incorporates Dacia's "Eco-Smart" approach, utilizing sustainable materials including textiles and Starkle, a scratch-resistant plastic previously used in the Dacia Duster. Physical controls are prioritized for frequently used functions to maintain driver focus. A standard 10.1-inch central touchscreen provides access to infotainment systems, with higher trims offering Media Nav Live, which includes connected navigation and real-time traffic updates.
Practicality is a key focus, with a 600-liter boot that can be divided into three sections for organized storage. The boot floor is reversible and can create a flat loading surface when the rear seats are folded. Dacia highlights the inclusion of over 32% recycled and circular-economy-sourced materials in the Striker's construction. Family-oriented features include a dedicated water bottle holder, a versatile blanket, and a multi-purpose net.
The Striker will be available in four trim levels: Essential, Expression, Extreme, and Journey. The Essential trim includes basic features and a touchscreen, while Expression adds convenience features like an electric parking brake. The Extreme trim is geared towards outdoor enthusiasts with unique design accents and durable interior materials. The Journey trim focuses on comfort for longer journeys, incorporating heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless smartphone charging.
Powertrain options include an electrified hybrid system, the Striker Hybrid 155, which combines a 1.8-liter petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery. Dacia claims this setup allows for up to 80% of urban driving to be completed in all-electric mode. The vehicle will also feature multiple driving modes, including Off-Road and Sand, along with Hill Descent Control.
Dacia revealed the Striker in March, with UK deliveries expected to commence in early 2027. The company anticipates it will be one of the most affordable vehicles in its segment upon its market entry.
