CVS Pharmacy Expands Services to Include Pet Prescriptions

CVS Pharmacy has begun dispensing select prescription medications for dogs and cats at its more than 9,000 locations across the United States. The expansion of services aims to make accessing common pet medications more convenient for owners.

Eligible pet prescriptions include antibiotics, allergy medications, flea and tick treatments, insulin, and pain relievers. According to CVS Health, these medications can also utilize pharmacy services such as automatic refills and prescription synchronization. Some medications may also be available for home delivery.

To fill a prescription, pet owners can bring a written prescription from their veterinarian to a CVS Pharmacy or ask their veterinarian to send it directly to the store. Customers can then pick up the medication in person or opt for delivery if the medication is eligible. Pet owners can also manage their pets' prescriptions through the CVS Health app by adding them to their CVS.com profile.

CVS Health stated that additional features, including electronic prescribing capabilities for veterinarians, are planned for release in the coming months. This move positions CVS alongside other retailers like Publix, Costco, Walmart, and Walgreens, which also offer prescription services for pets.
