Cricket Australia Achieves Record Revenue Amid Strong Media Rights
Media rights deals for the Ashes and a series against India fueled a record revenue of over $423 million and a significant net surplus for the organization.
Cricket Australia has reported a record revenue of 601.1 million Australian dollars (approximately $423 million) and a net surplus of A$81.8 million (approximately $57 million) for the 2025-26 financial year. This financial success is largely attributed to media rights agreements for the Ashes series and a limited-overs series against India.
The strong commercial performance, coupled with record audiences and a successful international season, contributed to the positive financial outcome. This marks a significant turnaround from the preceding 2024-25 financial year, during which Cricket Australia recorded a net loss of A$11.3 million (approximately $7.95 million).
The men's home Test series against England and the white-ball series against India were highlighted as key drivers of record media, commercial, and match-day revenue. Despite the current surplus, the organization forecasts losses for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years, citing a projected cyclical decline in media rights and match revenues aligned with the international touring schedule.
Last year's sporting achievements also played a role in the strong performance. The Australian men's team secured a dominant 4-1 victory over England to retain the Ashes on home soil. Simultaneously, the women's team clinched their seventh ICC T20 World Cup title by defeating England in the final at Lord's.
In head-to-head series, Australia won the ODI series against India 2-1 in October and November of last year, while India secured a 2-1 victory in the subsequent T20 series.
The Ashes series alone set attendance records, drawing 859,580 spectators over 18 days, averaging 47,754 attendees per day.
Looking ahead, the Australian men's team is currently in South Africa for a Test series. Following this, they are scheduled to play England in a white-ball series at home starting November 13, before hosting New Zealand for four Test matches from December 9 to January 8. The team's international engagements will then continue with a five-Test series in India, commencing January 21 in Nagpur.
