Costco Shoppers Find Flaw in Viral Marshmallow Crispy Cookies

Costco shoppers have identified a significant issue with the popular Kirkland Signature Marshmallow Crispy Cookies: their tendency to lose their desirable texture shortly after purchase. The warehouse club reintroduced the cookies this summer, which are sold in packs of 24 for $11.34 online and $9.99 in most stores. While a hit last year, the cookies' relatively short shelf life before staleness is proving challenging for consumers hoping to savor them over time.

According to customer feedback on Reddit, the cookies typically remain soft and chewy for only about two to three days when stored in their original packaging. After this initial period, they begin to dry out.

This has prompted some shoppers to devise preservation methods. One common strategy involves vacuum sealing and freezing the cookies to extend their freshness, a tactic one user described as "delaying the inevitable." Others have reported freezing individual cookies and thawing them as needed. Some consumers have found themselves discarding uneaten portions of the 24-count packages due to staleness.

However, for some Costco members, the cookies do not last long enough to require such measures. Several users reported consuming an entire pack within a few days.

Beyond storage concerns, some customers have found creative ways to enjoy the cookies. Suggestions include using them as a substitute for graham crackers in s'mores or creating ice cream sandwiches with two cookies.

Costco has a history of adjusting its bakery and food court offerings. Last spring, the retailer introduced and later removed a strawberry streusel cheesecake. In 2024, instead of reviving the discontinued twisted churro, Costco launched a caramel churro sundae featuring chopped pieces of the original churro. The original $1 churro was a long-standing menu item before being removed at the start of the pandemic. Costco's food court remains known for its budget-friendly staples, such as the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo and $3.99 chicken bake.
