Cooluli Recalls 250,000 Minifridges Due to Fire and Burn Hazards
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall affects specific older models with internal power supplies.
Cooluli has initiated a recall of approximately 250,000 minifridges due to fire and burn hazards, according to a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall specifically targets "10-Liter" and "15-Liter" minifridge models that feature an electric switch which can short circuit and overheat, particularly when toggling between cooling and warming modes on older units. The CPSC has documented at least 19 reports of these refrigerators smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire. These incidents have resulted in property damage exceeding $80,000, and one consumer reported smoke inhalation.
The affected minifridges were sold on Cooluli's website and Amazon between January 2019 and October 2024, with prices ranging from $80 to $120. Only specific older production batches of the 10-Liter and 15-Liter models with internal power supplies are included in the recall. Cooluli clarified that its newer refrigerators, which utilize external power supplies, are not impacted.
To address the hazard, Cooluli will provide affected customers with a free repair kit. Consumers are instructed to visit the company's website to verify if their model number is part of the recall. If their minifridge is covered, they will need to follow instructions on how to cut the power cord and submit photographic evidence to request the replacement kit. Consumers are strongly advised to stop using the recalled minifridges immediately.
